“Define success on your own terms, achieve it by your own rules, and build a life you’re proud to live.”Anne Sweeney
Do your homework. Stay in school. Get a good job. Live happily ever after.
That’s the story we’re told anyway.
Say you land your dream job. You stick to the rules, put in overtime, but still don’t get that promotion.
Or maybe you do get promoted, & in the same year lose your job following a chronic illness diagnosis (it happened to me).
As you’ve probably figured out by now, happily ever after isn’t guaranteed in life either.
You can stick to the rules, be a good person, & your life may still go sideways.
Building a successful business is a lot like building a successful life.
There’s plenty of advice out there- some good, some bad.
Even if you really really want to follow the rules, there’s still an endless supply of conflicting information.
Learn all you can. Apply all you can. Then decide what works best for you.
Some of history’s greatest successes came from those who broke the rules.
Stop worrying about what you should do. Stop worrying that you don’t know all of the rules.
Create your own rulebook.
Define your vision.
Determine what it’ll take to get there. Identify your roadblocks.
Create your own detours.
Do more of what works.
Don’t forget to let me know how it goes.
